An exhibition by Sarah Schneider with window installation by Blaise Larmee

A Laugh in the Dark is an enclosed amusement park ride. Emphatic lighting is used to for dramatic effect. Darkness is used selectively to hide the ride's mechanisms. Tactics to elicit fear, humor, and excitement. A Laugh in the Dark is an exhibition that includes drawing, painting, photography, and collage. Images are created, borrowed, or altered. Certain things are illuminated while others remain in the shadows. A story unfolds.

Sarah Schneider (b. 1989, Pittsburgh PA) has an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a BA from New York University. Schneider has been featured in group exhibitions at Field Projects Gallery, New York NY; Zeitraumexit, Mannheim Germany; and Gallery CA, Baltimore MD and solo exhibitions at Carl Schurz Haus, Freiburg Germany; and a two person exhibition at Skylab Gallery, Columbus Ohio. She was featured in New American Painting issue #112 and has had zines published by Blotter Books and Endless Editions.

Current Space is pleased to present a group show of hanging sculpture. The exhibition will take the form of an immersive sensory environment braided into a literal and anecdotal web. This ensemble of work serves to highlight not only the narrative potential of individual elements but also the spaces and stories in between.

 


Current Space is an artist-run gallery, studio, and a headquarters for cultural production, nourishing an ongoing dialogue between artists, activists, performers, designers, curators, and thinkers. Operating since November 2004, we are committed to showcasing, developing, and broadening the reach of artists locally and internationally.
